Good Sustainable Corporate Governance

Since 2025, we are offering a new multi-part training program on sustainability for supervisory board members.

The program will equip board members with the knowledge and skills they need to determine where companies are in their transition to a more sustainable business model, where they need to go, and how they can get there.

We treat the legal obligations to report on sustainability efforts as a chance for companies to strategically consider the risks and opportunities of the green transition, and to think through the fundamental dilemmas and trade-offs in their business strategy. We see sustainability as a cross-cutting issue that should be anchored in and driven by supervisory boards.

Our program is rooted in research, prizes practical relevance and aims to strengthen board members’ effectiveness as strategic sparring partners for the executive management.

How Supervisory Boards Can Shape Sustainable Corporate Governance

The work of supervisory boards has become enormously demanding. The systemic upheavals and polycrises of our time do not stop at the doors of the boardroom. Responsible corporate governance means reconciling the pursuit of profit with the long-term well-being of people and the planet.

Board members have a special role to play when it comes to making companies more sustainable. In this practical brochure, we explain their room for maneuver and action – even in the face of uncertain legal requirements – and how they can make use of it.

For companies that want to act with foresight, sustainable corporate governance is not a question of if, but how. The supervisory board can serve as a strategic driver and sparring partner for this paradigm shift.

Drawing on assessments and plenty of inspiration from experts in academia and practice, this brochure lays out ideas for putting this approach into practice.
